TIE PLATE LOCK SPIKES employ spring compression to hold tie plates firmly in place on cross ties and bridge timbers. They can be driven with standard track tools. Spikes are placed on the diagonally opposite hold-down holes of the tie plate and driven in prebored holes in the tie. Two lock spikes normally are used in conjunction with two standard cut spikes in each tie plate.
